What Causes Thyroid Disease?

There are several factors that cause thyroid disease. The most dangerous one is exposure to radiation like what happened in Chernobyl. Too much radiation may also come from radiation therapy for other illnesses. Other reasons are over consumption of soy products. There are drugs like lithium and cordarone heart medicine that can also cause thyroid problems.  lot of people think that a shortage of iodine causes thyroid problems, but an over consumption of iodine may also cause the same illness. Family history also plays a big part. These are some of the useful information I got from a thyroid support group that I’d like to share with others who have thyroid problems.
