Make Efforts To Avoid Listeria Contact

While infections caused by listeria bacteria are quite rare, then they do hit it is usually in someone whose immune system is low, so pregnant women and children and people suffering from chronic disease are at higher risk.  This bacteria can be ingested through foods such as deli meats, uncooked hot dogs and soft cheeses, or other unidentifiable sources.  Avoiding such foods if you are in a high risk category is a wise choice as well as keeping all cooking surfaces disinfected with an alcohol-based cleaner.  If the bacteria is contracted, getting on an appropriate antibiotic, usually IV, will almost certainly be required.
