Svchost.exe – What is it?

If you ever observed the list of processes through task manager, you would have observed multiple instances of svchost.exe. Also, you might have seen that you can’t stop it manually. This process manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, Svchost.exe constructs a list of services that it needs to load. Then the services are grouped and there is a single instance of svchost.exe for each of the group. This allows for better control, debugging and also ensures that failure of a single service doesn’t imply that entire windows fails.
